COLOURLOCK Leather Primer

COLOURLOCK Primer is a professional adhesion promoter designed to create a reliable bond between the prepared leather surface and COLOURLOCK Leather Colour. Its soft, flexible binder penetrates into the leather surface and provides a slightly tacky foundation for the subsequent colour layers.

Using Primer improves adhesion while reducing the amount of Leather Colour required to achieve coverage. This helps maintain the leather's natural softness and flexibility, particularly when restoring larger areas or working with more absorbent leather.

The amount of Primer required will depend on the condition and porosity of the leather. More porous or absorbent surfaces generally require a greater application, while well-preserved pigmented leather requires only a light coat.

Primer can also be used locally before filling scratches, cracks, tears and other damaged areas. Pre-treating exposed leather fibres can improve filler adhesion and increase the durability of the repair, although this additional step is not required for every repair.

For specialised applications, Primer may also be mixed with COLOURLOCK Leather Colour at a maximum ratio of 30% Primer. This can be useful when lightly recolouring absorbent or aniline leather where maintaining a particularly soft and natural handle is important.

COLOURLOCK Primer is designed primarily for spray application and is intended for professional or experienced users undertaking leather recolouring and restoration work.
